Program: Film Screening and Concert: Noah’s Arc

About: Filmmaker Nic Beery and jazz musician Noah Powell will screen Beery’s short documentary Noah’s Arc – ReBirth of a Jazz Singer at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9, at the Main Library, 300 N. Roxboro St. The film follows Powell’s journey from heroin addiction and felony conviction, as he overcomes great obstacles to rebuild his life and return to the music he loves. After the screening, Noah Powell’s Trio (Noah Powell, vocals / Alison Weiner, piano / Casey Toll, bass) will perform. A question & answer session will follow the musical performance.
Powell is a native of Kinston, NC and a graduate of North Carolina Central University. For more than 30 years, he has collaborated with many North Carolina musicians, including jazz great Stanley Baird, serving as front-man for Baird’s group in the early 90s. Powell currently performs with jazz pianist Allison Weiner at venues and events throughout the Triangle.
Beery is the owner of Beery Media, LLC., a video production company based in Carrboro, NC. Beery’s films have been featured in festivals worldwide, and he has won numerous awards. Beery is the 2009 winner of the Independent Weekly’s Indie Arts award, and was recently nominated for an Emmy.
