About: Join filmmakers Kenny Dalsheimer and Penelope Maunsell for a showing of the award-winning film Bending Sticks: The Sculpture of Patrick Dougherty. The program takes place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, at the Main Library, 300 N. Roxboro St.
Bending Sticks documents the career of internationally-acclaimed environmental artist Patrick Dougherty. The film follows Dougherty and his collaborators during a year of “stickwork” revealing his creative process, his inspirations and his unusual personal story. The artist has created more than 200 majestic sculptures out of nothing more than saplings. These sculptures have been exhibited at museums across the country, including the North Carolina Museum of Art and the Nasher Museum of Art. A DVD signing will follow the screening.
Dalsheimer founded The Groove Productions in 1996, and co-founded the Bull City Arts Collaborative in 2006. Maunsell founded her film and video company, Penelope Maunsell & Associates, in 1987. Dalsheimer and Maunsell also produced and directed Bending Space: Georges Rousse and the Durham Project.
