Program: Meet the Author: Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove
Date: Saturday, May 3
Time: 3 p.m.
Location: Main Library, 300 N. Roxboro St.
Cost: Free and open to the public

About: Durham County Library will host spiritual writer Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove for a reading from his new book, Strangers at My Door: A True Story of Finding Jesus in Unexpected Guests, at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, at the Main Library, 300. N. Roxboro St.

Strangers at My Door tells the stories of Rutba House, a ministry that Wilson-Hartgrove and his wife, Leah, started ten years ago in the Walltown neighborhood of Durham. Their idea was that they would open the door to whomever knocked, and with this principle in mind, they have welcomed hundreds of people into their house and their lives. As the Wilson-Hartgroves met, shared and helped change the lives of neighbors and new friends, their lives were changed too. Wilson-Hartgrove will read excerpts from his book, and a book signing will follow the reading.

In addition to running Rutba House, Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove is an Associate Minister at the historically black St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church. He also directs the School for Conversion, a nonprofit organization that holds outreach activities in state prisons and around the community, striving to help communities “unlearn habits of social division.” He has authored and co-authored 11 books on new monasticism, money and race in church, merging faith with a modern world, and other faith-based topics. He is a graduate of Duke Divinity School.
