This is the first book I read by Larson, and I really enjoyed it. I was caught up in this nonfiction work right from the beginning. I really enjoy learning about WWII history. I didn’t know anything about Ambassador Dodd, and I was really interested in learning about Germany through his eyes. Dodd was an interesting man, and although many of his decisions and actions frustrated me, I respected him and his dealings with Nazi Germany. It’s easy to look back and see all the “obvious errors”, but I can’t begin to imagine or fully appreciate what the people of the time were up against.
