Program: Meet the Author: Michele Andrea Bowen
Date: Monday, August 11
Time: 7 p.m.
Location: Stanford L. Warren Branch, 300 N. Roxboro St.
Cost: Free and open to the public

About: Durham County Library will host bestselling Durham author Michele Andrea Bowen as she debuts her new novel, Pastor Needs a Boo, at 7 p.m. on Monday, August 11, at the Stanford L. Warren Library, 1201 Fayetteville St.

Bowen’s books center on the human foibles of church members. Her previous titles include Church Folk, Holy Ghost Corner, More Church Folk, Second Sunday and Up at the College. Bowen can speak with firsthand knowledge about the positive aspects of the church, its politics, the spiritual shortcomings of its members and clergy, and everything in between as a result of growing up in the AME (African Methodist Episcopal) Zion Church. She is also the niece of an Apostolic Bishop and the granddaughter of an evangelist.

Her just released book, Pastor Needs a Boo, takes place in her adopted hometown of Durham. Unlike a “wife” or the more biblical term, a “help meet,” a “boo” means girlfriend, boyfriend or significant other. In Bowen’s novel, the church ladies in pursuit of the single Rev. Denzell Flowers show readers the underbelly of the Christian church and ultimate redemption – with a comical twist.
