Durham County Library Launches the Digging Durham Seed Library

Durham County Library will launch the Digging Durham Seed Library at Main, South Regional and Southwest Regional libraries on Wednesday, April 23. Library patrons will be able to “check out” seeds and then “return” harvested seeds once the growing season is complete.

Durham County Library Hosts Day of the Children, Day of the Books Celebration

Durham County Library will host the Day of Children, Day of the Books Celebration, themed Universal Language of Music, from Monday, April 21 to Wednesday, April 30. Special storytimes, crafts, music and more are scheduled at each of the seven Durham County Library locations throughout the celebration, ending with the grand finale at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 30 at the Main Library, 300 N. Roxboro St.

Durham County Library to Offer E-Magazines through Zinio

Durham County Library will begin offering Zinio, a digital magazine service, on Tuesday, April 8. The new collection provides unlimited access to complete digital magazines. Library cardholders are able to access the digital magazines from anywhere via the library’s website, using a computer, tablet or smart phone. Magazines can be read online or downloaded and read offline.

Durham County Library Hosts Film Screening on End-of-Life Decisions

Durham County Library will host the first program in a two-part series on end-of-life issues with a screening of the documentary Consider the Conversation: A Documentary on a Taboo Subject, at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, at the Main Library, 300. N. Roxboro St. A discussion will follow the film with Betsy Barton, Clinical Research Coordinator at Duke University Health System; Sandi Gray-Terry, Northern Piedmont Community Care; and Nikki Webb, Duke HomeCare and Hospice.

Durham County Library Hosts Seed Saving Workshops

Durham County Library is offering workshops on how to save seeds in preparation for the grand opening of the Digging Durham Seed Library, a seed ‘checkout’ program for local gardeners. The workshops will be held at three library locations: 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 6, at South Regional Library, 4505 S. Alston Ave.; 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, at Southwest Regional Library, 3605 Shannon Rd.; and 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, at Main Library, 300 N. Roxboro St.

Durham County Library Hosts NC Science Festival Air Fair

Durham County Library and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will host the NC Science Festival Air Fair on Tuesday, April 1, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at South Regional Library, 4505 S. Alston Ave. Participants will have the opportunity to check out the Village Green Air Monitor, engage in hands-on activities and hear about air quality and health from EPA scientists. Air-themed learning opportunities will be available for all ages.
