When Southern Discomfort begins, the formal swearing-in ceremony of Deborah Knott as North Carolina's newest district court judge is taking place. At the reception, she's reminded of a campaign promise she made: to help build a local WomenAid house. But before the house is complete, it's the scene of a violent assault on one of Deborah's nieces...and the death of her assailant. Could one of Deborah's family members have killed him?
