Description: Greystone, residence of James Edward Stagg at 618 Morehead Avenue. The estate was built in 1911 for J. E. Stagg, Ben Duke's executive secretary. Stagg's father was a nephew of Washington Duke and his mother was the sister of Dr. Bartlett Durham, the Bull City's namesake. Stagg was also the director of Erwin Mills on Ninth Street and Pearl Cotton Mills on Trinity Avenue. The stone pavilion near the entrance to Duke's East Campus is named in his honor.
