Get a Library Card

Don’t have a library card yet? Here’s all the information you need to register for a Durham County Library account.

To sign up for a library card, go to any Durham County Library location.

Full Access Library Card

This card is available to all residents of Durham County. If you’re under 18 years old, you must have a parent or legal guardian present when you sign up.

What it gets you:

  • Checkout up to 50 books, audiobooks and CDs at once for 3 weeks.
  • Checkout up to 5 DVDs at once for 1 week.
  • Use the public computers at any library location.
  • Checkout up to 4 eBooks and e-Audiobook for two weeks. (More info)
  • This card doesn’t expire.

Courtesy Library Card

If you live in Durham County, but you come to sign up for a card without identification or a parent or guardian present, you can get a Courtesy Library Card.

What it gets you:

  • Checkout up to 3 books.
  • This card only lasts 1 year, but it can be renewed.

Computer Use Card

This card is available to anyone and lets you use a public computer at any library location. You can’t checkout any items with this card, and it lasts for 1 year.
