Biographical / Historical Note: The East Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Association came into being on August 10, 1895 when the Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Association (established in 1868), passed the motion to divide their organization into two separate associations, East and West (with the Lynchburg and Durham Railroad as the dividing line) in an effort to decrease the burden of traveling pastors and messengers. This division continued into the 20th and 21st centuries as the united group of churches represented within the East Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Association interacted and grew over the years. The Association’s main objectives were and are to develop and encourage Christian fellowship; to provide spiritual assistance to member churches, congregations, and auxiliaries; to enhance the quality of life within the greater community; and to support the General Baptist State Convention of North Carolina.
