Abstract:
Scope and Content: The collection contains biographical materials and primary source documents collected by Pyne’s parents, George and Mary Pyne, pertaining to friends and notable Durham residents. The Frances Foushee camp diary is a photocopy of the original, which remains in Milo Pyne’s possession. The collection also contains documentation about George Pyne’s work with several organizations working to preserve Durham’s natural areas.

Biographical/Historical Note: George Pyne was an architect whose firm, Harris & Pyne,designed many Durham buildings including the Lincoln Community Health Center, Pilgrim United Church of Christ, and dorms at NC Central University. Pyne loved history, architecture, photography, and wildflowers. He was an active volunteer who worked to protect the Eno River, led tours of Maplewood Cemetery and St. Joseph AME Church/Hayti Heritage Center, and served on Durham’s Open Space and Trails Commission.
