| Scope and Content: | The Blossom Garden Club collection, 1955-1994, consists mainly of scrapbooks and compilations created by individuals in the club. In the 1930s the original Durham Garden Club formed, bringing women from across the county to work in promoting a more beautiful city. The outbreak of War World II caused a gas shortage in the area and it was decided that the club could be broken up into neighborhoods to conserve gasoline. In 1946 the Blossom Club was officially organized. It has acted as the garden club for the Trinity Park Area in North Durham since that time. Newspaper clippings, photographs, administrative documents and other memorabilia are contained in the scrapbooks. Most of the memorabilia in the collection relates to flower shows hosted or attended by the club, or community service acts they performed. |
