Scope and Content:	This collection contains records and related materials describing the work of the Durham City-County Charter Commission, 1971-1974.
Scope and Content:	The DCCCC was established in September 1971 for the purpose of drafting a charter which, if approved by the voters, would serve as the legal basis for the consolidation of the governments of the City of Durham and Durham County. The Commission sought the help and advice of the Institute of Government at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and of Public Research and Management, Inc., a consulting firm in Atlanta, Georgia. The Charter was published in May of 1974 and was submitted to the voters in a referendum on September 10, 1974. The proposition was defeated.
