| Scope and Content: | The Garden Study Club Scrapbooks, 1952-1953 and 1954-1955, consist of newspaper clippings, photographs, membership rosters, club histories, correspondence, and certificates documenting the activities of the club. The Garden Study Club was founded in the fall of 1947 “to stimulate and encourage interest in all forms of gardening; to aid in the beautification of Durham, particularly the Forest Hills section; to aid the in the protection of trees, shrubs, wild life, and wild flowers;” it was the second garden club in the Forest Hills area. The Club’s principal projects during this time included beautification of the Forest Hills Clubhouse and an Elizabethan Garden on Roanoke Island. |
