| Scope and Content: | The Gorman Family Collection, 1834-1960s, consists of papers, photographs, family history records, correspondence, a diary, and Civil War memorabilia concerning the family of Thomas M. Gorman, as well as some papers concerning the Speed and Coleman families. Thomas M. Gorman, 1900-1967, resided in Durham, North Carolina and later in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Many of the materials relate to Durham residents. The collection includes a genealogy of the Gorman family and related families compiled by Thomas M. Gorman, Jr. Of particular interest is a Civil War diary and correspondence between Captain John C. Gorman and his wife and mother. There is also correspondence from Alice Hunt at Hollins College, 1869-1870. |
