Culture Grams

What is CultureGrams?

CultureGrams provides concise, reliable, and up-to-date reports on more than 200 countries, each U.S. state and all 13 Canadian provinces and territories.

Accessing CultureGrams

  • To find CultureGrams, click here. (You can also find the link by clicking Research at the top of any DCL web page and selecting the Homework Help section or by choosing CultureGrams from the alphabetical list of online resources.)
  • When entering CultureGrams, you may be asked for your library information. When prompted, enter your library card number (beginning with “2345…”) and 4-digit PIN. Valid information will take you through to the ProQuest page where you will choose CultureGrams.

CultureGrams Editions

CultureGrams has four editions: World Edition is aimed at secondary school students and adults. Kids Edition, States and Province Editions are aimed at elementary school students.

World Edition

  • First begin by selecting a region on the map.
  • Then select a country within that region.
  • Each country profile features statistics, information on the country’s history, people, society, customs and lifestyles.
  • You can view video and pictures, read biographies of famous people, look at recipes for native dishes and listen to the national anthem.

States Edition

For each state information is provided about climate, geography, history, cultural notes, population and people and fun facts.

Includes:

  • Native American cultures for each state.
  • Recipes, symbols, flags, maps, bird songs, and even pro sports teams.
  • Complete state index and data tables.

Province Edition

  • Begin by selecting a province from the map.
  • For each Canadian province information is provided about climate, geography, history, cultural notes, population and people and fun facts

Kids’ Edition

The Kids’ Edition provides much of the same information that is found in the World Edition, but it is presented in a simpler format.

  • First begin by selecting a region on the map.
  • Then select a country within that region.

Features:

  • Click on Extremes to find the country with the most land, largest economy, and more.
  • You can print flags and maps to fill/color.
  • Find recipes, listen to national anthems and watch slideshows.

Special Features

  • You can build your own comparison tables or graphs between countries, states, or provinces, with the data of your choice (population, energy, etc.).
  • You can download photographs, images, maps, and flags.
  • Search can be done through keywords or by clicking through on map images.
  • Slideshows are available for most countries and states.
  • There are also videos and audio files of national anthems, bird calls, and more.
  • Search for profiles of famous people by country.
  • The World Edition has videos of interviews with people from around the world.
  • There are recipes each country.
