FAQs

Where are the nearest alternate libraries?

Please see the listing of libraries below. We have also provided links for directions to those libraries from Southwest.

The bookmobile is available every Tuesday from 4:30-6pm and the 2nd and 4th Fridays from 11:00 am -12:30 pm at the Parkway Plaza (near Kmart on University Dr.). The Bookmobile is available for browsing and return of materials.

Where can I pick up the books I requested? You may ask to have your library materials sent to any library location. If you specified Southwest Branch for a request you made earlier, these will be sent to Main Library. Again, ask at any service desk to change the pick-up location to a branch near you. The bookmobile cannot be selected as a pick-up location for hold requests.

When will the library reopen? Southwest Regional is scheduled to open in the summer of 2010. Ground breaking is scheduled for December 2008, and construction will take about 18 months.

What will the new library look like? Southwest Branch is expanding to become a 25,000 square foot regional facility on par with the recently completed North and East Regional Libraries.

What new services will it have? The new Southwest will have space for a larger collection, including music CDs, DVDs for adults and children, and a larger selection of children’s AV materials. There will be wireless Internet access and 30 computers for public use. The new meeting room will seat 100 and will have a divider to accommodate two groups.

What about teens? Teens will have a space of their own, and there will be two study rooms for groups of up to eight.

Will there be enough parking when Southwest reopens? Parking spaces will increase more than 50%, from 58 spaces to 88.

How can I check on the progress of this construction project? View pictures of the construction as it happens on the Director’s blog at http://dbtb.wordpress.com/. The Library Director and/or the Marketing and Development Manager will be available throughout construction to speak with community groups about the renovation. Please call Skip Auld (560-0160) or Gina Rozier (560-0151) with questions or to schedule a visit for your group.

We know Southwest is a well-loved branch. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience as we transform Southwest into a world-class regional library. We promise it will be worth the wait.
