Reader of the Week

Brought to you by Durham County Library and The Herald-Sun, Durham County’s Spotlight Reader of the Week will feature one reader each week throughout the summer. Be sure to check this page often once Summer Reading has begun for the latest Reader of the Week.

The Herald-Sun will also publish the Spotlight Readers of the Week each week!

Can WangWeek 6 – Can Wang
Durham County Library’s sixth Reader of the Week is Can Wang. Can is 6 years old and attends Orange Charter School. Her favorite book is Cinderella. Can visits Southwest Regional Library. She also attended an arts camp this summer, where she drew a big beautiful tree.


MFree_South_Week5Week 5 – Melati Free
Melati Free is Durham County Library’s fifth Reader of the Week. Melati is 10 years old and attends Pearsontown Year Round Elementary School. South Regional is her favorite library location, and her favorite book is Isabelle by Laurence Yep. Melati loves to dance just like her favorite character Isabelle. She is even in a dance program at her church.


Jaishaun PattersonWeek 4 – Jaishaun Patterson
Durham County Library’s fourth Reader of the Week is Jaishaun Patterson. Jaishaun is 12 years old and attends Maureen Joy Charter School. He’s a Bragtown Library Family Literacy Center patron, and his favorite book is Crash by Jerry Spinelli. Jaishaun just started to like reading this past school year, after his sixth-grade teacher introduced group reading to the class. She based her selections on student recommendations. Jaishaun says action books are his favorites.

Evan ThornWeek 3 – Evan Thorn
Evan Thorn is Durham County Library’s third Reader of the Week. Evan is 8 years old and attends Club Boulevard Elementary School. He visits the North Regional Library, and his favorite book is Big Nate: In the Zone by Lincoln Pierce. Evan also loves to draw.


Tomanni WilkinsWeek 2 – Tomanni Wilkins
Durham County Library’s Week Two Summer Reader is Tomanni Wilkins. Tomanni is 7 years old and attends Easley Elementary School. She visits the Main Library, and most recently she’s read Koala and the Flower by Mary Murphy. Tomanni wants to be a dancer when she grows up.


Brandon FennellWeek 1 – Brandon Fennell
Brandon Fennell is Durham County Library’s first 2014 Summer Reader of the Week. Brandon is 11 years old and attends Rogers Herr Middle School. His favorite library location is East Regional, and his favorite book is The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan. Brandon was voted Class President three years in a row, and when he attends the library, he regularly volunteers to help shelve books. Way to go Brandon!
