Durham County Library and Duke University’s Forum for Scholars and Publics will host Dr. Jonathan Scott Holloway, Yale University Professor of History, American Studies and African American Studies, for a reading from his book Jim Crow Wisdom: Memory and Identity in Black America since 1940. The program takes place at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 3, at the Hayti Heritage Center, 804 Old Fayetteville St.

What happens when U.S. history is viewed through African-American and Latino perspectives? Durham County Library will host Dr. Paul Ortiz as he explores American history, from the abolition of slavery in Mexico through the election of President Barack Obama. This multimedia presentation will draw from oral histories, black newspapers and poetry to create a new perspective on history for the 21st century. The talk will take place at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, at the Main Library, 300 N. Roxboro Street.
