Durham County Library Hosts Discussion on Mass Incarceration

Durham County Library will host a discussion of the documentary Slavery by Another Name, at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, at the Main Library, 300 N. Roxboro St. The program will feature Dr. Charles Campbell, Professor of Homiletics at Duke Divinity School; Daryl Atkinson, Attorney at the Southern Coalition for Social Justice (SCSJ); and Kimberly Brown, a re-entry activist.

Durham County Library will host Dr. Freddie Parker for a talk on runaway slaves in North Carolina at 7 p.m. on Monday, October 28, at the Main Library, 300 North Roxboro St. Parker is the author of Running for Freedom: Slave Runaways in NC, 1775-1840 and Stealing a Little Freedom: Advertisements for Slave Runaways in NC, 1791-1840.

Durham County Library & Program in the Humanities at UNC-CH Present Neo-Slavery Film and Discussion

Durham County Library will host a film showing of Slavery by Another Name at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 4, at the Hayti Heritage Center, 804 Old Fayetteville St.
The film chronicles the little-known story of a form of involuntary servitude that emerged after Reconstruction in the South and lasted for over 80 years.
