Durham County Library will be part of the first DPS Family Academy Festival on Saturday, September 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hillside High School (3727 Fayetteville St.).
Beginning this school year, Durham Public Schools is offering a variety of classes and services that will help parents and caregivers support their children in schools. The DPS Family Academy brings together partners as diverse as UNC’s Morehead Planetarium and Science Center, El Centro Hispano, Durham County Cooperative Extension, and Child Care Services Association to connect families with resources that enrich their lives and support their children’s academic success.
It all begins with the “Parents as Partners” DPS Family Academy Festival on September 7. Parents and children are invited to sample DPS Family Academy classes and enjoy student performances, food and fun.
The festival will have activities for children from bounce houses to creative arts tables and present exhibits and classes including family science programs, homework help, and family financial fitness. The DPS Family Academy aims to link Durham schools with community resources to support children’s academic development and strengthen family units.
