About: Durham County Library will host the director and members of the cast from the PlayMakers production of Metamorphoses by Mary Zimmerman and The Tempest by William Shakespeare. The program takes place at 7 p.m. on Monday, October 21, at the Southwest Regional Library, 3650 Shannon Road.
The discussion will be led by Artistic Director Jeff Meanza and includes guest Co-Director Dominique Serrand and PlayMakers company member, actor Jeffrey Blair Cornell. Metamorphoses is based on Ovid’s narrative poem re-imagined pool-side by PlayMakers. It presents the poetic myths of Midas, Orpheus and Eurydice, Eros and Psyche, and others to juxtapose the ancient and contemporary in storytelling and imagery, exploring the timeless theme of love in all its forms. The Tempest is Shakespeare’s last play and the theatre’s first work of magical realism. In the aftermath of a shipwreck of his own conjuring, exiled Prospero wields magical powers and manipulation to restore his daughter Miranda to her rightful place.
