So what’s up with air? Come join the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) at South Regional Library from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1 to “check out” the Village Green Air Monitor and our mobile monitor, engage in hands-on activities, and hear about air quality and health from EPA scientists. We’ll have air-themed learning opportunities for all ages throughout the day.
9:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. – Talk to EPA Scientists and learn about the Village Green Air Monitor located at the library, see the car that EPA uses to measure air emissions on the road, and find out how the school flag program can help protect your child’s health.
11 a.m. – 12 noon – The Parkwood Fire Department will be on-site with their fire trucks and Sparky the animatronic dalmatian. Children 3-5 are invited to come learn about fire safety and explore the trucks!
3:30 – 4 p.m. – Compete in the teen Sunwise Sun Safety Relay
Inside the Library
9:30 a.m. – 12 noon – Bring your pre-school and elementary kids to make air-related crafts, do hands-on activities with the NC Museum of Life & Science (invited), and participate in Story Time at 10:30 a.m. to get a free copy of Why is Coco Orange?
9:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. – Learn how EPA scientists measure what’s in the air and “play” with real Air Sensors, measure how much air is in your lungs, test your particle matching skills, vote in the student poster contest, and talk with Clean Air Carolina to learn more about air quality in NC.
2:30 – 4 p.m. – Participate in teen activities including the Where’s Kelvin Scavenger Hunt.
Community Tech Talks
Learn about state-of-the-art EPA research on the impacts of air quality on health, how energy use impacts human health and the environment, and what you can do about it. These sessions are targeted to adult audiences. Bring your lunch or visit our on-site Food Truck.
