About: Durham County Library hosts Sean McKinney for an evening of clawhammer style Banjo music. The program takes place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 23 at the Main Library, 300 N. Roxboro St.

Clawhammer style differs from the traditional picking style found in classic banjo, folk and bluegrass music. This style features a down-picking technique where the hand takes a claw-like shape. Musicians including Doc Watson, Ralph Stanley and Neil Young have used this style of music through the years.

Originally from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, McKinney currently lives in Raleigh where he makes art as well as music. He studied art at Leesville High School in Raleigh and at UNC-Wilmington.
