About: Durham County Library presents its fourth annual Durham Comics Fest with guests, prizes, workshops and activities for children, teens and adults from Thursday, October 23 to Sunday, October 26 at various Durham locations.

This year’s guest cartoonists include George O’Connor (Olympians), Jared Axelrod (The Battle of Blood and Ink), Brian Shearer (Doctor Who, G.I. Joe), Jeremy Whitley (Princeless), Eric Knisley (illustrator and co-organizer of the Durham Indie Comics Expo) and Andrew Aydin (March: Book One). Workshops and presentations will cover cartooning basics, writing and drawing for comics, the evolution of Batman and an exploration of the influential and significant comic, Martin Luther King and the Montgomery Story.

In addition, the Fest will feature the unveiling of the Durham Comics Project Book at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 24 at Cocoa Cinnamon, 420 W. Geer St. The book is the culmination of the year-long Durham Comics Project, a project that sought to capture the essence of Durham as a community by teaching people how to tell their stories through pictures. Through a series of events and workshops around Durham, Amy Godfrey, children’s librarian and co-creator of Comics Fest, taught people how to tell their stories through comics using the media or styles they are most comfortable with.

Comics Fest is made possible by the Friends of the Durham Library. For details and a complete schedule, visit or call 919-560-8590.
