I loved this book. I’ve always been curious about Malala and enjoyed reading more about her personal life and what drives her to speak out for the education of young girls. Malala’s cowriter, Christina Lamb, contributed some of the deeper historic information and Malala’s more typical teen perspective brought realism to the conflicts and difficulties of living in Pakistan. There is a map of Pakistan and an enlarged inner map of the Swat Valley as well as many of the areas Malala refers to in the book. Also helpful were the glossary and important dates in the history of the region. This book really illuminated what we read about in the news after she was shot, but also the struggles that ordinary families in Swat face daily.
