Durham County Library Launches Lucky Day Collection

DURHAM – Durham County Library has launched the Lucky Day Collection, which features the most popular books in the library’s collection, available immediately on a first come, first-served basis.

Patrons can check out Lucky Day Collection books and keep them for seven days. In order to keep the books in the collection moving, there are no renewals for these items. Patrons can have up to three Lucky Day Collection books checked out at one time.

“The new Lucky Day Collection is designed for those patrons who enjoy the latest bestselling print books, but are frustrated when there are dozens of people in front of them on the hold list,” said Jan Seabock, Collection Development Administrative Librarian. “Since the titles on the Lucky Day shelves will change regularly, we encourage patrons to stop by the library often to see what new books are available. They may find one to check out immediately that has been on their hold list.”

Library staff has purchased extra copies of popular books for this new collection. These copies are not listed in the online catalog and are housed in special Lucky Day Collection shelving at each library location.

To distinguish Lucky Day Collection books from the regular library collection, each book has a yellow spine label with the collection logo and guidelines. Patrons will always be able to tell their normal library checkouts from the Lucky Day Collection checkouts with this label.

The library will continue to purchase these same titles for the regular collection, and those copies will still circulate for the regular loan period (21 days) and can be reserved or renewed if there are no holds on the title.

Patrons can contact any Durham County Library location with any questions.
