The book was told from the perspective of a man named Jim Burden who told about his life on the prairie of Nebraska in the late 1800’s. His relationship with the title character, Antonia, was central to his story. Apparently, the author, Willa Cather, was nostalgic for her early prairie life and this was evident in her writing. It was fascinating to me to read about the hardships these early pioneers had to bear. These hardships were softened by his relationships with his adoptive family, and his friends. The story starts when Jim is about 10 years old and ends in his adulthood. An interesting and worthwhile book.
