Durham, NC – Durham County Library presents Durham Comics Fest 2017 from Thursday, July 6 to Wednesday, July 12. The Big Day is Saturday, July 8 at Southwest Regional Library, 3605 Shannon Rd., Durham, NC 27707. Events throughout the festival will be at various locations. Durham Comics Fest 2017 is Durham County Library’s seventh annual all-ages celebration of comics readers and creators at Southwest Regional Library and beyond. The library is proud to host presentations and workshops by acclaimed cartoonists Jeremy Sorese (Steven Universe comics), Liz Prince (Tomboy), R. Sikoryak (Terms and Conditions), and Kriota Willberg (No Pain!). We’re also presenting a screening of the documentary Wonder Women! The Untold Story of American Superheroines with an appearance by director Kristy Guevara-Flanagan, comics trivia night at Fullsteam Brewery, a Local Comics Creator Networking Night at Atomic Empire, and a special Durham Comics Project Drink & Draw at Cocoa Cinnamon. Trivia Night at Fullsteam Brewery (726 Rigsbee Ave, Durham)
Thursday, Jul. 6, 9 p.m.
Come test your mental mettle in a special night of trivia co-sponsored by Fullsteam Brewery and Duke University Libraries, home of the Edwin and Terry Murray Comic Book Collection. Win prizes, and maybe even the grudging respect of your peers! This event is for ages 21 and up only.
Drink & Draw at Cocoa Cinnamon (420 W. Geer St, Durham)
Friday, Jul. 7, 7 p.m.
Join the Durham Comics Project for this special Drink & Draw! Enjoy low-key, cooperative drawing exercises or do your own thing in a no-pressure, all-fun environment with other artists. All ages and skill levels welcome. This event is co-sponsored by the Durham Comics Project and Cocoa Cinnamon.

Documentary Film Screening and Director Q&A, Wonder Women!: The Untold Story of American Superheroines (Southwest Regional Library, 3605 Shannon Rd, Durham)

Wonder Women! traces the fascinating birth, evolution, and legacy of Wonder Woman, and introduces audiences to a dynamic group of fictional and real-life superheroines fighting for positive role models for girls, both on screen and off. Features interviews with Lynda Carter, Gloria Steinem, Kathleen Hanna, and more. Plus, Wonder Women filmmaker Kristy Guevara-Flanagan will be present for Director Q&A! Guevara-Flanagan’s Q&A was made possible by the Friends of the Durham Library, and the film screening was made possible by the Durham Library Foundation.
Local Comics Creator Networking Night at Atomic Empire (3400 Westgate Dr. #14B, Durham)
Wednesday, Jul. 12, 6-8 p.m.
Are you a professional, amateur, or aspiring comics artist or writer living in the Triangle? Come meet fellow creators, show off and trade your work (no sales please), catch up with the Durham Comics Project, and make our local comics scene even better. All ages, skill levels, and genres welcome, and all attendees can enter to win an Atomic Empire gift card! This event is co-sponsored by Atomic Empire and the Durham Comics Project.
