Summer Reading 2017 is Here

Summer Reading Kickoff will take place rain or shine!

Build a Better World

It’s time for Summer Reading 2017: Build a Better World!

This year’s Summer Reading program runs from June 17 to August 12 and begins with a Kickoff celebration at Northgate Mall (1058 W Club Blvd, Durham, NC 27701) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 17. Join in the fun on the Plaza starting with a parade at 10 a.m. followed by a day full of music, movement, and fun!.

Throughout the summer, earn Summer Reading points by reading, attending library programs, exploring the library’s resources, and more. Redeem those points for great prizes along the way. To sign up and start recording your points, visit DurhamCountyLibrary.org/SummerReading or any Durham County Library location. People of all ages are encouraged to participate.

The popular Summer Fine Read Down is back again this year, too. Reduce your library fines by reading – just bring your reading materials to the information desk at a Durham County Library, sign in with a librarian each time you want to participate, and read at the library.

While you’re at the Kickoff, be sure to check out Durham County Library’s new locations at Northgate, including the Durham County Library North Carolina Collection and the MakerLab at Northgate. Books Among Friends, the Friends of the Durham Library’s new storefront inside Northgate, will be open selling books June 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. as part of the Kickoff. At 2 p.m. everything in the collection will be on sale for half price.

To sign up for Summer Reading and learn more about programs and events happening all summer long, visit DurhamCountyLibrary.org/SummerReading. Share your Summer Reading photos on social media using #DCLBuildaBetterWorld.
