This summer, Durham County Library is celebrating a family of readers each week of Summer Reading. This week, we’re celebrating readers from two families—Kierston Reddish and Fardosa, Hamdi, Abubakar, and Asmo Hassan.
Kierston and her siblings are frequent visitors of Bragtown Library Family Literacy Center. Kierston is 6 years old and is a rising 1st grader. She likes James Dean’s Pete the Cat series as well as Ariel from Disney’s The Little Mermaid. She has been coming to the library for as long as she can remember. Her summer plans include going to the beach with her family.
Fardosa, Hamdi, Abubakar, and Asmo Hassan are frequent visitors of Bragtown Library Family Literacy Center, too, and were past winners of Bragtown’s Cupcake Stack Up Competition!
Fardosa is 7 years old, a rising 2nd grader, and loves Dora books. Hamdi is 9 years old, a rising 4th grader, and an avid lover of graphic novels. One of her favorites to read is the series “My Boyfriend Is a Monster.” Abubakar is 11 years old and is a rising 5th grader. He is a huge fan of graphic novels, specifically the Amulet series. Asmo is 12 years old and is a rising 7th grader. She also loves graphic novels. Her favorites are the “Baby Sitters Club” and “My Boyfriend Is a Monster” series.
Congratulations to each one of these summer readers!
Durham County Library encourages reading every day. Babies love books, too! It’s never too early to start reading together. Children, teens, and adults can earn prizes by reading, visiting each Durham County Library, participating in library programs, exploring a library database or electronic resource, and volunteering in the community.
To register for Summer Reading and learn more, visit your local library or check out DurhamCountyLibrary.org/SummerReading. Stop by the library to discover something new, participate in community, and help build a better world.
