Durham, NC – Durham County Library enters Phase 2 of reopening on June 16 with the launch of Library Take-Out! Starting June 16, library customers will be able to log in to their account online at DurhamCountyLibrary.org or call 919-560-0103 to place a hold on books and audiovisual material for pick up at the library. The phone line is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday starting Tuesday, June 16. Complete instructions can be found at DurhamCountyLibrary.org/TakeOut.
Once customers’ items are ready, they will be asked to set up a pick up time through the online reservation system or by calling 919-560-0103. Five items can be reserved per library card for each pick up. During customers’ 15 minute reservation time, their items will be in the library lobby. If a customer misses their reservation time, they will have 24 hours to reschedule. Customers will be asked to show their library card information or ID. For everyone’s safety, customers will be required to wear a cloth face covering in the lobby and wait their turn outside the library at least six feet apart. Only one customer will be allowed in the lobby at a time.
Starting June 16, Library Take-Out! will be available at North, East, South, and Southwest Regional Libraries, as well as Stanford L. Warren Branch Library from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. Service will be available at Bragtown Branch Library from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. These hours are subject to change as the system develops. Check DurhamCountyLibrary.org/TakeOut for the latest. During the hours when Library Take-Out! is available, the drop boxes will also be open outside the libraries for customers to return checked-out items.
Phase 1 of reopening began June 1 with the opening of the automated book return at Main Library. The book return will continue to be open at Main Library for customers to return books and audiovisual material from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday throughout Phase 2. The library’s online resources also continue to be available—everything from ebooks to free online classes, tutoring services, and homework help.
