Update: East Regional Library will be open for Take-Out! again on Tuesday, January 26. If you have holds available at that location, you may now make a reservation for pickup at DurhamCountyLibrary.org/TakeOut.
Durham County Library leadership learned today, January 14, 2021, that a staff member who is assigned to East Regional Library received a positive test result for COVID-19. The staff member last worked at the library on January 12, 2021. The employee who tested positive has self-quarantined and will not return to work until receiving a negative test result and approval from Durham County Human Resources.
East Regional will be closed for a minimum of 72 hours, during which time the building will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. All staff members who were in close contact (within 6 feet) with the employee within the previous 7 days will be quarantining for a minimum of 14 days. After the minimum 72 hour period and the cleaning and disinfecting has been completed, the library may reopen. Reopening will depend on current CDC recommendations and having enough staff who were not in close contact (within 6 feet) with the positive test staff member to handle operations.
Due to the extensive health safety protocols put into place by the library, the risk of a customer contracting the virus from the employee while at the library is assumed to be extremely low.
If you have holds at that location, they will be held for you for an additional 14 days after we reopen so that you can make an appointment to pick them up then.
