Durham County Library, in partnership with the Durham Library Foundation, is hosting our inaugural Library Fest this upcoming Monday, April 5, through Saturday, April 10, 2021. Library Fest is a community celebration during National Library Week that showcases our library system’s exceptional services. With events featuring many different authors, artists, historians, and experts in the STEAM field, Library Fest will be a diverse representation of the many ways the library can be a part of our lives. Featured speakers will include The Vanishing Half author Brit Bennett, Transcendent Kingdom author Yaa Gyasi, An American Marriage author Tayari Jones, I Am Every Good Thing author Derrick Barnes and illustrator Gordon C. James, “Purple STEAM” artist Volkan Alkanoglu, Bharatanatyam dancer Ramya S. Kapadia, cartoonist Keith Knight, drag performer Stormie Daie, author and historian Blake Hill-Saya, and YouTuber Daniel Davis (aka Tinkernut).

While Library Fest will feature a community reading program with opportunities for readers to engage with authors and illustrators, there’s more to it than just books! Some of the many services we will be highlighting include our new Business Services department, our makerspaces, our support for the arts and humanities, our North Carolina Collection, our new gaming and media center, our outreach to the Hispanic community, and much more. Library Director Tammy Baggett-Best says, “Library Fest is about bringing the best of the library together for a celebration of all the ways we support the community. Now more than ever, we must showcase what a vital resource the library is for enhancing cultural, educational, and creative opportunities for all. We are so thankful to our library family at the Durham Library Foundation for making Library Fest possible.” To learn more about the programs offered and registration, visit
