Durham County Library was awarded a second year of grant funding for $51,650 from the National Library of Medicine and National Institutes of Health to fund All of Us Durham<\/em> through April 2020<\/strong>. The first year of funding, in FY19, was for $64,560. Through health programming, staff training, and collection development, Durham County Library utilized year two grant funding to develop and implement strategies to provide resources to community members who needed them most.
 
Health programs provided education, exercise, and community, offering a free opportunity for people to build and maintain healthy habits. Health classes like Your Core \u2014 Your Life, A Prescription for Exercise, and Hypertension Management taught participants skills and activities they could continue to practice on their own for lasting positive impact. Yoga and Zentangle, the meditative art form, were designed to create focus and reduce stress. High stress levels impact many minority communities with real consequences on people\u2019s long-term health. The project helped promote and foster a healthy community, increased health literacy, and made it possible to provide resource materials, classes, and assistance to the public.
 
The physical fitness programs that were offered at the library brought a greater visibility to the library and the All of Us <\/em>project through recognition from the North Carolina Public Library Directors Association award for programming, which you can read more about here<\/a>.
