Reaching Students Where They Are<\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

From June to October of 2019, Friends funding allowed the MakerLab to expand programming and bring exciting new experiences to our users who would not normally have access<\/strong>. With the help of the Friends, we were able to host seven programs and reach approximately 130 youth with programming ranging from visits from the North Carolina Zoo, to fashion design, to an introduction to engineering concepts using LEGOs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the most impactful programs we hosted was our Galileo Technic program led by Young Engineers. They introduced the engineering principles of multi-channel transmission systems, mechanical coordination, and more using LEGOs.<\/strong> Young Engineers brought in materials and methods that were fun, engaging, and inspiring, that not only sparked the minds of the youth to expand their thinking but also encouraged parental support and involvement in the program. The Friends funds made a clear impact and enabled us to improve our programming in the MakerLab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall, we were awarded $1,800 and completed all programming for $1,710. As we prepared to transition back into Main Library, we were extremely grateful for the opportunity to close out our programming at Northgate Mall with innovative programming and experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
