Request Materials

North Carolina Collection staff will provide information by mail and email to people outside Durham County who are requesting (1) short, specific pieces of information published locally and (2) brief information relating to Durham County history and genealogy. (Durham County residents will be asked to visit the library to obtain the material or go through OASIS.) People requiring more extensive research assistance will be referred to a list of private researchers.

Researchers may request up to five pages of materials.

Copies and Scans From the Image and Manuscript Collections

Complete the Photo and Manuscript Copying Agreement form and return a signed copy to the North Carolina Collection at the address to the left. You may also email a copy to ncc@dconc.gov.

Copies and Scans of Microfilmed Items Such as Newspapers or WWII Scrapbooks

Please email ncc@dconc.gov with your request for copies and scans to receive a service/print quote.

For an article requested from the local newspaper (the Durham Herald-Sun and its forerunners), provide an exact date for the event (death, wedding, baseball game, etc.). If you don’t know the date, we can look events up for you for the years 1970-1989 and 1995-present. Be sure to note whether you prefer copies or emailed JPEG or PDF copies. The maximum is five pages sent by mail or email.

Provide an exact citation for the information you are requesting, and be sure to note whether you prefer hard copies or emailed PDF copies.
