VICE CHAIR

The Library Board of Trustees serves as an advisory board for the Library Director and consists of nine members appointed by the Board of County Commissioners. The general public is welcome and encouraged to apply for these appointments. Each member is dedicated to library advocacy and listening to the needs of the community regarding the library system.

Reflecting on the year, Sandra Chambers, Chair of the Board of Trustees, said, “Last year, the Board of Trustees hosted our Advocacy Breakfast in October at North Regional Library. The breakfast was attended by elected officials and other members of the library family. Board members have participated in Library Staff Day, where we present the Trustee’s Award to an exceptional Durham County Library staff member. This is always a tough decision for the Board because every year, we receive several exceptional staff nominations for this award. I will miss these in-person gatherings this fall, but hopefully, we can find a way to create and participate in virtual events.”

The Board of Trustees also supports our budget requests to Durham County and works diligently with staff to review and approve our library policies. They are a committed group of individuals dedicated to Durham County having the best library system possible.
