Library Fest is more than events you can attend!

One Seed, One Community

With Digging Durham Seed Library

Looking for a way to celebrate Library Fest 2026 with your own two hands? Digging Durham Seed Library is inviting the whole community to join the “One Seed, One Community” program that offers free seeds, community connection, and the experience of growing and collecting food.

Food is one of the most enduring storytellers in U.S. history. By participating, you aren’t just planting a garden; you are connecting with the experience of growing and collecting food that has sustained generations. The organic Provider Bean that has been chosen is a high-yield variety that represents the self-reliance and community sharing that helped build the landscape of the United States.

Visit any Durham County Library location’s Seed Library and look for the custom Library Fest Seed Packet!

If you’d like to support the Digging Durham Seed Library in packing the PROVIDER BEAN to give away, join us for a Packing Party!

Right To Read

For Your Freedom To Read

April 20, 2026, is not only the start of Library Fest; it also marks Right to Read Day, a national celebration of the freedom to read! As we kick off Library Fest 2026, this day perfectly highlights our theme, “The Stories That Built US.”

Celebrate your right to read by visiting your library to check out a book, by listening to a favorite story, by downloading that next must-read title, or by exploring our specially curated Library Fest booklists.

Celebrate in community by joining us at Main Library for a silent reading event. Feel free to stop by anytime during the program. Bring your own material or check one out when you arrive. Settle in, read in community, and show your support for intellectual freedom.
