Durham County Library Announces New Deputy Director

Photo of Stephanie FennellDurham County Library is pleased to announce Stephanie Fennell, most recently the location manager for North Regional Library, as the new Deputy Director. Fennell will start this role today, March 7, 2022.

“We are thrilled to welcome Stephanie to our Executive Leadership Team,” said Tammy Baggett-Best, Library Director. “Her years of service with Durham County Library will elevate this role as she brings to the table an understanding of community needs from a lens of frontline experience.”

Fennell has worked within the Durham County Library system for 14 years in a variety of progressive positions. She holds a Master of Library Science degree from North Carolina Central University and completed coursework in the Education Doctorate Program at Capella University with a focus in Leadership and Management. She has also completed leadership training through the Durham County Leadership Academy and was a member of the 2019 cohort of the North Carolina Library Association Leadership Institute.

“It is an honor to have been selected as the Deputy Director. Community is who we are at Durham County Library, and my goal is to help enhance the community’s library experience on every level possible. I am looking forward to working directly with our library team and the Durham community to help our library be the absolute best,” said Fennell. “I am excited to start and look forward to meeting so many more of our Library patrons.”

True to her commitment to serve, Fennell plays an active role on multiple committees within Durham County Library and Durham County Government. She has recently begun work on racial equity in the Library by joining the Government Alliance on Racial Equity and working with others across Durham County to ensure racial equity for all County employees. In her free time, Stephanie enjoys traveling and spending quality time with family and friends. She also likes exercising, camping, and volunteering.
