Durham County Library Receives All-Clear Following Bomb Threat at Main Library

Durham, NC — On the morning of Saturday, April 13, Durham County Library’s downtown Main Library location received a bomb threat related to one of its programming offerings. Upon receiving the threat at approximately 10:30 a.m., staff and patrons evacuated to a safe distance. Local law enforcement swept the building and confirmed that no threats were present, giving the building the all-clear.

“I’d like to thank our Durham local law enforcement partners and other emergency responders including Library Security for their work to ensure the safety of our staff and customers, who responded with grace during this emergency event. Also, a special thank you to Missy Lane’s Assembly Room in downtown Durham for opening their doors to staff for accommodations as needed,” said Tammy Baggett, Library Director. “I would also like to extend my thanks to other county agencies and to our staff for their work to keep the community safe.”

Durham County Main Library will remain closed for the remainder of Saturday, April 13th, reopening Monday, April 15th at 9:30 a.m. If you left items at Main Library during the evacuation, those items will be secured and available for pick up on Monday at the 2nd floor information desk.
