February 2022 Library Update

It’s hard to believe we are already entering the month of February! Most people think of Valentine’s Day and Black History Month when they hear February. I’m thankful we take this opportunity to express our care and compassion for the community. I appreciate your support of our library system and your patience as we all maneuver the pandemic. We always strive to offer resources that provide entertainment and growth for everyone in the community.

I’m also thankful that we acknowledge Black history not only in February but year-round. Durham has a wealth of Black history including Black Wall Street, Mechanics and Farmers Bank, Hayti Heritage Center, and North Carolina Central University to name a few. We have many exciting opportunities for you to explore Black history at our libraries from great books of the likes of The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett, An American Marriage by Tayrai Jones, Feeding the Soul by Tabitha Brown & All That she Carried by Tiya Miles. I encourage you to visit our online digital exhibits: The Durham Civil Rights Heritage Project, Bull City Soul, Durham County’s Rosenwald Schools & The Women Who Ran Them. You can also visit our calendar to discover our virtual program opportunities.

I invite you to make the library a regular destination for your family. If you have a moment, drop by and say hello. I welcome the opportunity to hear what you like about our library and what recommendations you have for improvements. If you can’t drop by, feel free to reach out via email at LibraryMarketing@dconc.gov.
