March 2022 Library Update

March has started with great success for our community. In celebration of Women’s History Month, a panel of female leaders in Durham discussed the history that is being made by their leadership and what the future will look like. The panel included Durham Mayor Elaine O’Neal, Durham City Manager Wanda Page, Chair to the Board of County Commissioners Brenda Howerton, Durham County Interim Manger Claudia Hager & Chief of Durham Police Patrice Andrews.

With a crowd of nearly 68 in attendance, ABC 11 Anchor Amber Rupinta moderated an engaging conversation that provided panelist insight on their biggest challenges, how Durhamites can play a more active role to uplift the community, unexpected hurdles as a female leader, and more. This event was organized by Humanities & Adult Programming Coordinator Celeste Holtzman with support of Library Development Officer Sara Stephens. I’m grateful for their teamwork and continuous support of Durham County Government and the Durham Library Foundation to make such events possible. The event was recorded and will be posted online for those unable to attend.

There’s more excitement in the air! Our Digging Durham Seed Library is back in full swing with an upcoming Gardening Lecture Series; “Sprouting Connections.” The series is presented in partnership with Durham Cooperative Extension. Further details are shared in the newsletter below.

Staff at Durham County Library are committed to service excellence and strive to make each library experience a positive one. Our customers are our top priority, and our goal is to provide excellent service every time by being welcoming, approachable, respectful, knowledgeable, and professional. To make sure we are meeting your needs and expectations, we need your feedback of what we are doing well and areas we need to improve. Please take a moment and respond to the customer service survey. I’ll share results of the survey in the weeks ahead.

In the meantime, I hope you are enjoying the many books on your nightstand and reading until your heart is content.

Happy Reading Everyone!
