Bull City, NC SLAM

Through a partnership between Durham Public Schools (DPS) and Durham County Library, DPS students, teachers, and staff can access Durham County Library print and online resources. Here’s how it works:

Who can use SLAM?

All Durham Public Schools students have a SLAM ID unless they have opted out of the program.

For new students, your SLAM ID will be available to use within about one month of your DPS start date.

DPS teachers and staff can get a library card by presenting your DPS ID at any DCoL location. You don’t need to be a Durham County resident. Your SLAM account works like a normal adult borrower card.

How does SLAM work?

Use your DPS Student ID number (also known as a PowerSchool number) where a library card is needed – that’s your SLAM ID.

The default PIN is the last 4 digits of your Student ID number.

Although Durham County Library is fine free, you are still responsible for fees on any lost or damaged books.

If you are a DPS student who already has a Durham County Library card, you can keep it. Use whichever account you prefer to check out items.

Sorry, but to protect privacy, we are unable to look up SLAM ID numbers for students who don’t know their Student ID number.

What can I do with my SLAM ID?

You can use your SLAM ID to:

  • Check out up to 5 print items at a time
  • Get full access to all of our online resources, from home or from school. Some examples of what’s available are Libby / OverDrive, NC Kids Digital Library, and many more!
  • Log in to a public computer at any Durham County Library location. Teens can log in to the computers in the teen area, and children can log in to computers in the children’s area.

DVDs, CDs, and other non-print materials can’t be checked out with a SLAM ID.
