Bull City, NC SLAM - Schools & Libraries Achieving More

Through a partnership between Durham Public Schools and Durham County Library, DPS students, teachers, and staff can access Durham County Library print and online resources. Here’s how it works:

Who can use SLAM?

All Durham Public Schools students have a SLAM ID unless they have opted out of the program.

For new students, your SLAM ID will be available to use within about one month of your DPS start date.

DPS teachers and staff can get a library card by presenting your DPS ID at any DCoL location. You do not need to reside in Durham County. This card has the same permissions as a normal adult borrower card. Unlike with the student SLAM accounts, teachers and staff will still be responsible for fines.

*While the library is closed due to COVID-19, DPS teachers and staff can get a library card by contacting us online. Let us know you’re a DPS staff member who needs a card, and we’ll take it from there.*

How does SLAM work?

Use your DPS Student ID number (also known as a PowerSchool number) where a library card is needed – that’s your SLAM ID.

The default PIN is the last 4 digits of your Student ID number.

There are no overdue fines on items checked out with your SLAM ID. However, you are still responsible for fees on any lost or damaged books.

If you are a DPS student who already has a Durham County Library card, you can keep it. Use whichever account you prefer to check out items.

Sorry, but to protect privacy, we are unable to look up SLAM ID numbers for students who don’t know their Student ID number.

What can I do with my SLAM ID?

You can use your SLAM ID to:

  • Check out up to 5 print items at a time
  • Get full access to all of our online resources, from home or from school. Some examples of what’s available are TumbleBooks, Muzzy, OverDrive, RBdigital Magazines, and many more!
  • Log in to a public computer at any Durham County Library location. Teens can log in to the computers in the teen area, and children can log in to computers in the children’s area.

DVDs, CDs, and other non-print materials can’t be checked out with a SLAM ID.
