On Saturday, June 8, 2024, Durham County Library will celebrate the 100th birthday of Jean Bradley Anderson, a local historian who has made immeasurable contributions to the understanding of Durham’s past. Her trailblazing Durham County: A History of Durham County, North Carolina first came to market in 1990 and was updated with a second edition in 2011. Durham County Library’s North Carolina Collection houses Anderson’s research papers. Her history of Durham County continues to inspire new generations of historians and remains a wellspring of information for those conducting research on Durham County.

On the morning of Saturday, April 13, Durham County Library’s downtown Main Library location received a bomb threat related to one of its programming offerings. Upon receiving the threat at approximately 10:30 a.m., staff and patrons evacuated to a safe distance. Local law enforcement swept the building and confirmed that no threats were present, giving the building the all-clear.

From Monday, April 8 to Saturday, April 13, Durham County Library will hold the fourth annual Library Fest. This year’s theme is The Nature Edition. With the generous support of the Durham Library Foundation, the Forest at Duke, and community partners, Library Fest will include world-class author talks, programs, and events.
