LEED Certification
South Regional Library has earned Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification through the U.S. Green Building Council’s Green Building Rating SystemTM. LEED is an internationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. To earn LEED certification, a building project must earn “credits” by meeting prerequisites and performance benchmarks in each of the key areas. Projects are awarded Certified, Silver, Gold, or Platinum certification depending on the number of credits they achieve.
